Hello world.
How do you even write a blog? Where do you start? Do people actually read these, or is it just the search engine bots?
Well, I guess I’ll start by explaining why I created this space on the internet.
I had a moment where I realized I couldn’t quite find a resource or someone to relate to the struggles I’ve been facing. So, I’m writing here to share my journey of building an urban homestead in the Phoenix metro area.
Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes it feels like I’m chasing a goal hanging from a tree’s highest branch. I like to believe I can reach it. I keep jumping for it, but I’m only 5’1″ and no matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to grab it.
I dream of owning land where I can have horses, chickens, and the dreamiest garden. But we live in the 2020s, and let’s be honest, land is expensive.
That said, I also feel incredibly fortunate. (Which might sound like a contradiction after everything I just stated.)
We’re lucky to own a lovely home in the Phoenix valley with a big, beautiful mesquite tree out front. Tucked in an HOA neighborhood, our backyard is under 8,000 square feet. I can’t have chickens or horses here, but I can make the most of what I do have. I have a mesquite tree, a backyard, and the ability to garden. We have potential and determination.
I’m dedicating this space to sharing urban homesteading ideas for anyone who dreams the same dream I do, but wants to start where they are. Because really, why can’t you practice homesteading in an apartment or a small HOA home?
To anyone who is here reading, welcome.
